We offer our summer courses for 9-12 year-olds at the beautiful and historic Wycombe Abbey. The school was founded in 1896 and is one of the top performing schools in the UK. Set in magnificent grounds of more than 160 acres, Wycombe Abbey offers a wide array of modern facilities including:

We take day trips twice a week to locations in London and Oxfordshire. Many of the experienced staff leading these trips are current students and alumni of the University of Oxford, so you are guaranteed an authentic experience with knowledgeable locals.

At Oxford Summer Courses, our students’ care and wellbeing comes first. We can guarantee 24-hour supervision and a ratio of one staff member to every five students so your summer school experience will be as safe as it is fun.

We understand how to provide a stress-free and enriching experience for students and their parents. The pastoral provision for our courses for 9-12 year olds includes:

  • Experienced highly trained pastoral staff (including First Aid), who live on site during the course
  • 24 hour supervision

  • Intensive two-week course, 21 classes per week
  • Gain valuable English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills- invest in your international future
  • Optional 2:1 or 1:1 tutorial time to focus on your individual needs and learning goals. Either focus on your general English, or choose to meet with an expert subject tutor to focus on subject-specific language, for example Business, Law or Medical English
  • Focus on improving fluency and accuracy through interactive, communicative activities and real-life encounters, inside and outside the classroom
  • Build up your vocabulary and develop your written work with regular self-study assignments

Academic IELTS Course Overview

  • Intensive two-week course, 21 classes per week.
  • Introduction to Academic IELTS – everything you need to know about the exam. Find out how to take the exam and how your papers will be marked. Learn about the different types of questions you will find in each component, as well as exam technique and handy tips to get the best marks
  • Optional 2:1 or 1:1 tutorial time to focus on your individual needs and learning goals. Either focus on your general English, or choose to meet with an expert subject tutor to focus on subject-specific language, for example Business, Law or Medical English
  • Practice exam-style reading, writing, listening and speaking exercises and receive individual feedback on your progress in each area. Take timed mock exams using authentic materials to get a real idea of your progress
  • Focus on Academic Writing – learn what topics to expect, how to structure your essay, appropriate vocabulary to use and useful phrases to take your writing to the next level
  • Study all the possible topics for the IELTS Academic exam; from Art to Business, Environment to Education. Improve your vocabulary and practice using new language effectively
  • Learn idioms, colloquialisms, phrasal verbs and compounds; focus on meaning, form and pronunciation
  • Receive a Certificate of Recommendation from Oxford Summer Courses at the end of your course

Minimum Requirements

Aimed at 16-17 and 18-24 year olds taking the IELTS Academic exam in the next 6-12 months, CEFR level B1 and above

Key Skills English Course Overview

Richard Orange

Richard is a native-speaking English teacher, and grew up in the county of Warwickshire, near to William Shakespeare’s birthplace of Stratford-upon-Avon. When teaching, Richard draws upon his practical experience from his time as a journalist writing for renowned newspapers such as the Times, The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph to to help you improve your written and spoken English. He has also worked as a university lecturer and has trained students from all over the world in the finer points of English grammar and idioms for a number of years.

Drawing on his experience Richard enjoys using dynamic and interactive teaching methods as well as workshops and practical activities outside of the classroom to make his classes diverse and enjoyable for students.

Aside from his time spent teaching the English language Richard is an editor and writer of academic books on the media and has also written travel guides to the Alps.
