Mathematics is designed for 16–17-year-olds interested in developing their mathematical reasoning skills to build a solid foundation for argumentation and problem-solving. Students will look beyond basic calculations and explore fundamental theories that form the backbone of mathematics. The course covers essential mathematical thinking and helps students develop a strong knowledge base that can be applied to academic challenges and real-life situations. Students will also delve into the theory behind calculations, learning how to make rigorous arguments and prove or disprove mathematical concepts. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, ensuring that learning is both engaging and relevant. The course includes a masterclass on critical thinking and collaboration, along with a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.

As part of the 16–17 Mathematics programme, you’ll live in a city defined by logic, problem-solving, and discovery. Accommodation is in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier. Plus lets you choose single or twin; Superior guarantees an ensuite; Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All include shared spaces and on-course staff support.
Meals are provided on a half-board basis, including breakfast and dinner. Meals are served at the accommodation or at local restaurants, offering a variety of dining options.

Mathematics in Cambridge challenges students to think bigger, question assumptions, and explore the structures that underpin the world around us. Small seminar groups (maximum eight students) ensure every learner contributes, asks questions, and receives personalised attention. Independent assignments are brought into tutorial-style sessions where ideas are discussed, tested, and refined — helping students build clarity, precision, and confidence in their reasoning. Outside the classroom, the experience includes life in a Cambridge college setting, cultural excursions, and friendships with peers from around the world. Students finish the programme with sharper critical thinking skills, new academic momentum, and a certificate plus a tutor recommendation to mark their achievements.
