Outline
Innovation and Technology is designed for 16–17-year-olds who are passionate about the digital world and want to explore how new technologies are shaping the future. Students will examine emerging digital technologies and their impact, and learn how successful business leaders and start-up pioneers have turned their ideas into profitable ventures. The course will focus on the conditions required for creativity and how to turn innovative ideas into real-world solutions. Students will also have the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills and gain practical insights into the role of technology in business. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, ensuring that the learning experience is both dynamic and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking and a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.

As part of the 16–17 Innovation and Technology programme, you’ll live in a city shaped by discovery and invention. Meals are provided on a half-board basis, including breakfast and dinner. Meals are served at the accommodation or at local restaurants, offering a variety of dining options.

What does it take to turn a big idea into something that changes lives? In Cambridge — a global centre for scientific breakthroughs and cutting-edge innovation — students explore how technology shapes the world and how innovators bring bold ideas to reality. Through practical challenges, prototyping, and problem-solving workshops, they investigate areas such as artificial intelligence, energy systems, robotics, and digital transformation, building creative confidence along the way.
Seminar-style learning (maximum eight students) ensures every student is actively involved, contributing ideas and learning from peers with different strengths. Tutors shape the course around emerging technologies and students’ interests, helping them think critically about the impact and responsibilities of innovation. With independent project work, excursion-linked learning, life in a Cambridge college, and a global network of new friends, students leave with sharper analytical skills, a certificate of completion, and a personalised tutor recommendation — ready to continue their journey as future technologists and changemakers.
