Learning

Outline

Psychology is designed for 13–15-year-olds who want to understand how the mind works and why people behave the way they do. Students will explore key psychological questions such as how we remember and forget, how social environments influence behaviour, and how thoughts shape actions. They’ll examine major theories, analyse case studies, and develop critical thinking and research skills. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors adapt the course to the group’s interests, making learning personal, engaging, and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass focused on skills like teamwork and collaboration, along with a reflection session to help students review their goals and progress.

Teaching methodology

Learning in a small group (no more than 8 students and often fewer) means that you get quality time with your teacher and ask as many questions as you like! Through interactive learning, our teachers will guide you through new concepts and assign you practice tasks to build your knowledge and skills. You will also have an opportunity for group work, independent research, and homework assignments to be discussed in class. Small classes mean everyone gets to have their say, and students learn from debating with one another, as well as from their tutor.

The Oxford Summer Courses Experience

Why do we think, feel and behave the way we do? Psychology at Oxford gives curious students the chance to explore the science behind human behaviour — from how we learn and make decisions to what influences emotion, personality, and memory. Through lively discussion and hands-on investigation, students build curiosity, empathy, and confidence in expressing their own ideas about the mind.

Every weekday includes small, discussion-focused seminars (maximum 8 students) where learners analyse real psychological research, tackle case studies, and test their assumptions through practical tasks. Afternoons include a mix of directed study, masterclasses, and subject-linked excursions — helping students apply what they learn to everyday life and the world around them. With structured evening activities, safe supervision, and college-style accommodation, students gain both independence and support as they deepen critical thinking skills and discover how psychology connects to the way we live.
