Outline
Biology is designed for 18–24-year-olds who are passionate about understanding the complexities of the natural world. Students will explore a range of topics, from the genetic mutations that drive evolution to the dynamics of predation and disease prevention. The course will focus on key concepts such as molecular biology, genetics, and ecology, tailored to your tutor’s area of expertise. Through a mix of solo research, group discussions, and case study analysis, students will deepen their understanding of how living organisms interact with their environments. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors adjust the course to the group’s interests, ensuring a dynamic and relevant learning experience. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking, along with a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.
The city of Oxford, with almost 1,000 years of academic tradition, has been closely linked with discoveries in biology—from early studies of plants and anatomy to modern advances in genetics and conservation. As part of the 18–24 Biology programme, you’ll live in a city shaped by scientific curiosity and innovation. The city of Oxford provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its historic colleges, world-class museums, and the famous Oxford Botanic Garden offering centuries of biological heritage.
Accommodation is in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier. Plus lets you choose single or twin; Superior guarantees an ensuite; and Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All include shared spaces and on-course staff support.
Meals are provided on a half-board basis (breakfast and dinner), served in college dining halls or at selected local restaurants. Students arrange their own lunch. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Two independent assignments — guided through individual tutor feedback — help students strengthen their scientific reasoning and communication. Every participant leaves with a certificate of completion, a tailored tutor recommendation, and a clearer sense of where their passion for biology could take them next.

Visitors can explore its impressive collection of buildings and exhibitions, including the iconic White Tower, the Crown Jewels, and the medieval palace.
