Learning

Outline

Leadership is designed for 16–17-year-olds interested in developing their leadership potential and enhancing their ability to lead teams, manage time, and build lasting relationships. Students will explore critical thinking, decision-making, and emotional intelligence to help them influence and inspire others effectively. Through practical, hands-on learning, they will develop the skills needed to set goals, make impactful decisions, and lead with confidence. The course also includes tailored coaching and masterclasses to help students refine their leadership abilities and learn from the finest examples of leadership. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors adapt the course to the group’s interests, ensuring that learning is engaging and relevant. The course includes a masterclass on critical thinking, along with a reflection session to track goals and progress.

Teaching methodology

Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.

The Oxford Summer Courses Experience

Great leaders think critically, communicate clearly, and bring people together to make ideas happen. In Cambridge, students explore different approaches to leadership through real-world case studies, group decision-making challenges, and role-play scenarios. They reflect on what kind of leader they want to become, learning how values, empathy, and confidence shape influence in academic and professional settings alike.

Small seminar groups (maximum eight students) allow for personalised guidance and active participation. Independent tasks feed into tutorial-style sessions where learners analyse their choices, receive tailored feedback, and develop stronger strategic thinking. The programme includes life in a Cambridge college setting, cultural excursions, and social events that help students build global friendships and learn collaboratively. By the end, they leave with enhanced communication skills, greater self-belief, and both a certificate and tutor recommendation that recognise their progress and potential.
