Studying at Harrow School

At Harrow School, students aged 9–12 experience an engaging academic programme that’s built around curiosity, imagination, and real-world relevance. Founded in 1572 under a Royal Charter from Queen Elizabeth I, Harrow is known for its red-brick architecture, inspiring alumni, and rich tradition of excellence.

From the carved names of 17th-century students to the school’s role as a filming location for the Harry Potter series, Harrow combines history and magic in equal measure. Students are welcomed into a secure, supportive campus where creativity and exploration are at the heart of every day.

Who Studies Here and How They Learn

Our courses hosted at Harrow School are designed for bright, curious students aged 9–12 who are ready to try new things, work with others, and grow in academic confidence. Classes are small and led by experienced primary teachers who bring learning to life through active, collaborative teaching methods.

Students take part in multimedia presentations, group tasks, outdoor learning, and subject-based projects designed to build key skills in a fun and accessible way. The learning environment is structured yet exciting, ensuring that younger students stay engaged, inspired, and supported every step of the way.

Accommodation and Facilities

Students stay in traditional Harrow boarding houses, with separate dormitories for boys and girls. For 2025, South Lawn will house girls and Park will house boys. Rooms are mostly singles, with some doubles and triples available. Each room includes a desk and wardrobe, and bathrooms are shared. Bed linen is provided, but students must bring their own towels. A weekly laundry service is included.

Facilities at Harrow School include a swimming pool (used during scheduled activity slots), a large sports hall, arts and crafts spaces, outdoor playing fields, 5-a-side football pitches, and a modern classroom block. The school also has a dedicated theatre and a marquee used for student events, plus the historic Bekynton dining hall where meals are served in a vibrant communal setting.

FAQs about Venues and Tier Options

Can I choose my venue?

Sometimes. If you’re applying for a Junior (9–12), Eton (12–14), or Spain (15–17) course, your venue is fixed: Harrow School, Eton College, or Resa Vallehermoso in Madrid. For Oxford and Cambridge, your venue is assigned based on your age, subject, dates, and pricing tier. After you apply, an advisor will contact you to confirm the details — including your venue — and help with any questions before you confirm your place.

What are the pricing tiers and what do they mean?

For Oxford and Cambridge courses, you can choose from four pricing tiers: Classic, Plus, Superior, and Premier. All tiers include teaching, meals, and activities, with higher tiers offering extras like ensuite rooms, airport transfers, and more flexibility. Junior, Eton, and Spain courses have one fixed price that includes everything you need for a safe, structured, and rewarding experience.

What do I get in each tier?

All tiers include your course, meals, activities, and support throughout your stay. Higher tiers add benefits like private ensuite rooms, return airport transfers, travel insurance, premium merchandise, and more flexible booking terms. You can compare all tiers on our Prices and Dates page.

When will I find out my venue?

You’ll be told your assigned venue after you apply. One of our admissions advisors will contact you directly to confirm your course details — including where you’ll be staying. This is your chance to ask any questions or discuss options before you accept and pay your deposit.
