Empowering Change Through Education

At Oxford Summer Courses, we believe learning can — and should — make the world better. Our responsibility extends beyond the classroom: to how we teach, how we operate, and how we care for people and the planet. As a Certified B Corporation with an impressive score of 102.4 (the benchmark is 80), we’re recognised for meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance. From sustainable operations to inclusive education, we’re committed to using our platform to create lasting, positive impact.

Our Sustainable Education Vision

Education should inspire progress — not just for individuals, but for communities and the environment too. At the heart of our mission is a belief that world-class learning and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Our approach goes beyond the classroom: from reducing emissions and investing in low-carbon projects to supporting local communities in Oxford and beyond. As our Co-Founder Harry Hortyn says, “We’re proud to deliver exceptional teaching while leaving a positive mark on the world.”

Our Sustainability Pledge

We take concrete steps to operate responsibly and make measurable change:

  • B Corp Certified: Recognised globally for our commitment to social and environmental excellence.
  • CarbonNeutral® Certified: Through our partnership with Climate Impact Partners, we offset 100% of our carbon emissions.
  • Investment in Low-Carbon Projects: Including the Acre Amazonian Rainforest Project, helping protect biodiversity and reduce emissions.
  • Giving Back: Every student who joins an Oxford Summer Course helps fund projects that build a more sustainable future.

Together, these initiatives ensure that every aspect of what we do — from teaching to travel — supports a cleaner, fairer planet.

Our Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Being a B Corp is just the beginning. We’re continually finding new ways to reduce our impact — from introducing electric vehicle schemes through Octopus Electric Vehicles to prioritising sustainable materials and responsible suppliers.

Our goal is simple: to lead by example and prove that educational excellence and environmental responsibility can thrive together.

Transforming Futures with Universify Education

Access to education changes lives. That’s why we’re proud to partner with our sister charity, Universify Education, to remove barriers to higher education for underrepresented students across the UK.

Since 2016, we’ve supported more than 900 students — many progressing to leading universities including Oxford and Cambridge. Through financial support, office space, and volunteer time from our team, we help make higher education more inclusive and equitable for all.

Our CarbonNeutral® Commitment

We’re proudly CarbonNeutral® Certified in partnership with Climate Impact Partners, supporting verified projects that reduce global emissions. These initiatives help transition the world toward a low-carbon economy while inspiring environmental awareness among our students and staff.

Our focus isn’t just on offsetting — it’s on education through action: showing that sustainability is something we can all participate in.

Partnering with Climate Impact Partners

Through our partnership with Climate Impact Partners, we contribute to projects that protect ecosystems and support sustainable livelihoods. This includes the Acre Amazonian Rainforest Project and the Low Carbon Project, which reduce emissions while empowering local communities.

By supporting these initiatives, Oxford Summer Courses ensures the benefits of learning ripple far beyond the classroom — helping students see their education as part of a global movement for good.

Empowering Ghana with Gyapa Cookstoves

We’re proud to support the Gyapa Efficient Cookstoves Project in Ghana. This initiative reduces deforestation and carbon emissions while improving health and quality of life for thousands of families.

By providing clean, fuel-efficient cookstoves, the project helps communities cook more safely and sustainably — a tangible example of how global education providers can contribute to real-world change.
