Outline
International Relations is designed for 16–17-year-olds who want to understand global politics and the forces shaping the world. Students will explore topics such as nationalism, diplomacy, and the causes of conflict. They’ll examine global issues like preventing war, the nature of states’ actions, and analyze specific conflicts to gain a broader view of international relations. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning engaging and relevant. The course includes tutorial Q&A sessions, an academic skills masterclass, expert speakers, and visits to different Oxford colleges. Students will also have the opportunity to attend a university fair to explore future career pathways.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.
The city of Oxford, with nearly 1,000 years of academic history, has been associated with leaders, diplomats, and thinkers whose ideas have influenced global politics. As part of the 16–17 International Relations programme, you’ll live in a city known for debate, diplomacy, and the exchange of ideas. The city of Oxford provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its long tradition of political thought and international dialogue.
Accommodation is in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier. Plus lets you choose single or twin; Superior guarantees an ensuite; Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All include shared spaces and on-course staff support.
Meals are half-board (breakfast and dinner), served in college dining halls or selected local restaurants, with students arranging their own lunch. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Who makes the rules that shape our world — and who decides what’s fair? In Oxford, students explore diplomacy, global conflict, cooperation, and the power dynamics between nations. Through lively debate and real case analysis, they examine issues such as security, climate policy, international organisations, and human rights — developing a sharper understanding of how global decisions are made and their impact on everyday lives.
Interactive seminars (maximum eight students) encourage every learner to contribute, while expert tutors adapt content to the group’s interests and perspectives. Independent assignments help students deepen their analysis and are refined further through tutorial-style feedback sessions. Combined with life in a historic Oxford college, cultural excursions, and a diverse global community, students leave with stronger communication and critical thinking skills — plus a course certificate and personalised tutor recommendation to support future academic goals.

Students can explore the castle's impressive collection of buildings and exhibitions, as well as witness jousting tournaments, falconry displays, and other live shows.

Visitors can explore its impressive collection of buildings and exhibitions, including the iconic White Tower, the Crown Jewels, and the medieval palace.
