Yet, the poorest countries still struggle with poverty, and migration is now one of the most widely debated topics. Explore all the significant issues our world faces today and in the future on our International Development course. We’ll explore what it means to be a ‘developed’ country, the gap between developed and developing, and the role of globalisation. Take your place as a citizen of the world by exploring where global inequality comes from, what shapes a country’s development, and how the international community can help (or hinder). Set and reflect on ambitious goals with our support, engage in tutorial Q&A sessions, participate in an academic skills masterclass for critical thinking development, explore future career pathways through expert speakers, attend a university fair to meet representatives from various universities, and have the chance to visit different Oxford colleges for a comprehensive Oxford summer school experience.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.

- Agriculture, entrepreneurship, and other developmental agendas.
Note: This is an example structure. The actual content may vary based on the tutor’s expertise and student preferences. Students will have the opportunity to discuss their learning goals with admissions to tailor the course.
By the end of the course, students may:
- Understand the key ideas behind Universal Basic Income (UBI) and its global impact.
- Explore the role of volunteer tourism in sustainable development.
- Analyse case studies of UBI policies and developmental plans in the Global South.
- Develop critical thinking skills related to policy design and its effects on developing nations.

This course provides an excellent foundation for further studies in international development, public policy, or economics. Nestled within the University of Oxford’s most iconic colleges, including Lady Margaret Hall, New College, Somerville College, and Worcester College, students will experience life at one of the world’s top universities. Accommodation will be assigned based on the tier selected during the application process.
