Art History is designed for 18–24-year-olds who are passionate about understanding the deeper meaning behind art. Students will explore a variety of artistic movements, from the Renaissance to Impressionism and Expressionism, as well as different artistic forms such as painting, sculpture, mixed media, and architecture. The course will cover both classical and contemporary art, providing insight into the techniques and symbolism used by artists across cultures and eras. Through critical analysis of iconic works and lesser-known pieces, students will gain a profound appreciation for art and its cultural impact. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, ensuring a personalised and engaging experience. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking, along with a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.
The city of Oxford, with almost 1,000 years of academic tradition, has been closely linked with art and culture—from medieval stained glass and Gothic architecture to world-renowned museums and galleries. As part of the 18–24 Art History programme, you’ll live in a city shaped by creativity and scholarship. The city of Oxford provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its historic colleges, the Ashmolean Museum, and centuries of artistic heritage to explore.
Accommodation is in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier. Plus lets you choose single or twin; Superior guarantees an ensuite; and Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All include shared spaces and on-course staff support.
Meals are provided on a half-board basis (breakfast and dinner), served in college dining halls or at selected local restaurants. Students arrange their own lunch. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Art history reveals how people across time have expressed identity, power, belief, and imagination through visual culture. Tutorial-style learning in groups of no more than eight encourages lively debate and confidence in interpreting and presenting ideas. Two independent assignments receive personalised tutor feedback that supports academic writing and visual analysis skills. Combined with access to Oxford’s remarkable museums and architecture, enrichment activities, and college-style living, students learn in an environment that deepens both knowledge and real-world appreciation of art. Each participant leaves with a certificate of completion, a tailored tutor recommendation, and a renewed ability to see art — and culture — more thoughtfully.

Visitors can explore its impressive collection of buildings and exhibitions, including the iconic White Tower, the Crown Jewels, and the medieval palace.
