Learning

Outline

Leadership is designed for 16–17-year-olds who want to develop the skills to inspire and influence others effectively. Students will learn about the purpose of leadership, emotional intelligence, and ethical decision-making. They’ll explore how to take responsibility for their actions, shift power justly, and make well-rounded, informed choices. The course will help students gain the confidence to lead and inspire others, focusing on practical leadership skills for personal and professional growth. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning engaging and relevant. The course includes tutorial Q&A sessions, an academic skills masterclass, expert speakers, and visits to different Oxford colleges. Students will also have the opportunity to attend a university fair to explore future career pathways.

Teaching methodology

Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.

Meals are half-board (breakfast and dinner), served in college dining halls or selected local restaurants, with students arranging their own lunch. All dietary requirements are catered for.

The Oxford Summer Courses Experience

Leadership isn’t about titles — it’s about influence, clarity, and the confidence to bring ideas to life. In Oxford, students explore what effective leadership looks like through real-world case studies, collaborative challenges, and guided reflection. They learn how to communicate persuasively, make decisions under pressure, and work with others to achieve meaningful outcomes — skills that shape success in any future path.

With a maximum of eight students per group, discussions are active and personal. Learners complete independent tasks and then review their thinking in tutorial-style sessions that encourage constructive feedback and deeper insight. They also experience life in an Oxford college setting, enjoy organised excursions, and connect with like-minded peers from around the world. By the end of the course, students feel more confident in their ability to lead — supported by a completion certificate and a personalised tutor recommendation.
