Outline
Sociology and Anthropology is designed for 18–24-year-olds who are eager to explore the complex dynamics of human existence. Students will dive deep into the study of human origins, social structures, and the key forces that shape our lives. From sexuality and globalisation to law and order, the course offers a comprehensive understanding of how we live, interact, and evolve as a society. Through an engaging mix of theory and practical application, students will gain insights into the cultural, political, and environmental influences that define human behaviour. The course also offers an exploration of emerging societal trends, helping students understand their role in a rapidly changing world. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning both dynamic and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking, along with a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.
The city of Oxford, with nearly 1,000 years of academic history, has long been associated with the study of society and culture, from early explorations of human behaviour to modern global perspectives. As part of the 18–24 Sociology and Anthropology programme, you’ll live in a city shaped by inquiry, debate, and discovery. The city of Oxford provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its libraries, museums, and long tradition of examining how people live, connect, and create meaning.
Accommodation is in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier. Plus lets you choose single or twin; Superior guarantees an ensuite; and Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All include shared spaces and on-course staff support.
Meals are provided on a half-board basis (breakfast and dinner), served in college dining halls or at selected local restaurants. Students arrange their own lunch. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Why do societies work the way they do? What shapes identity, culture, and human behaviour? This course invites students to explore the social and cultural forces that define our world — from community and inequality to belief systems and globalisation. In Oxford, learners analyse real-world case studies and contemporary issues, developing fresh perspectives on how humans live, interact, and adapt to change.
Tutorial-style classes (maximum eight students) encourage open discussion, critical thinking, and evidence-based argument. Two independent assignments are supported through personalised, tutorial-style feedback that strengthens academic writing and analytical confidence. Alongside cultural enrichment, college-style living, and a diverse international cohort, students gain broader awareness of global society and the skills to examine it thoughtfully. Every participant receives a course certificate and a tailored tutor recommendation — valuable for future academic pathways in social sciences and beyond.

Founded in 1753, the museum covers over 2 million years of human history, from ancient civilisations to modern times.
Visiting Warwick Castle is an opportunity to explore the rich history of this magnificent medieval fortress. It dates back to the 11th century and has played a significant role in English history. Students can explore the castle's impressive collection of buildings and exhibitions, as well as witness jousting tournaments, falconry displays, and other live shows.
The Tower of London is a historic castle and fortress that has served as a royal palace, prison, and even a zoo over the centuries. Visitors can explore its impressive collection of buildings and exhibitions, including the iconic White Tower, the Crown Jewels, and the medieval palace. They can also learn about the infamous prisoners who were held in the tower over the centuries, including Anne Boleyn and Guy Fawkes.
Visiting Westminster in London is a must-see for anyone interested in the city's rich history and iconic landmarks. This historic district is located in the heart of London and boasts several of the city's most famous attractions, including the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace.
