Learning

Outline

Mathematics is designed for 13–15-year-olds who want to develop their problem-solving skills and understanding of key mathematical concepts. Students will explore topics such as algebra, geometry, and probability, learning how to apply mathematical principles to real-world scenarios. Through a combination of theory, puzzles, and problem-solving activities, they’ll strengthen their logical thinking and mathematical intuition. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning engaging, relevant, and fun. The course also includes a masterclass on teamwork and collaboration, along with a reflection session to help students track their goals and progress.

Teaching methodology

Learning in a small group (no more than 8 students and often fewer) means that you get quality time with your teacher and ask as many questions as you like! Through interactive learning, our teachers will guide you through new concepts and assign you practice tasks to build your knowledge and skills. You will also have an opportunity for group work, independent research, and homework assignments to be discussed in class. Small classes mean everyone gets to have their say, and students learn from debating with one another, as well as from their tutor.

The Oxford Summer Courses experience

Get ready to decode the media that shapes our world. On our Media Studies course for ages 13–15, your child will explore how information, stories, and messages are created and shared — from TV and film to social media, advertising, and news. They’ll learn how media influences opinions, culture, and identity, while developing critical thinking and creative communication skills. With no fixed curriculum, students are encouraged to share their interests when they apply, and our expert tutors will shape the course to reflect those passions wherever possible.

With no more than 8 students per class (and often fewer), your child will benefit from personal attention and space to share their views, analyse content, and explore topics in depth. Lessons are interactive and discussion-based, blending tutor-led insights with group projects, media analysis, and independent research. Dedicated study sessions are included to help students reflect on their learning, complete assignments, and receive support from on-course staff.

Beyond the classroom, they’ll enjoy a full summer school experience — with games, social events, Cambridge excursions, and a final graduation ceremony and celebratory disco. It’s a summer that inspires confidence, creativity, and media-savvy thinking.
