Learning
Outline
Psychology is designed for 16–17-year-olds interested in understanding the complex workings of the human mind. Students will explore the intricacies of thought processes, emotions, and behaviours, and how they are shaped by our past, environment, and biology. They’ll examine key psychological theories, including alternative approaches, the fundamentals of neuroanatomy, and the physiological aspects of the brain. Through both solo and group study, students will explore how the mind influences behaviour and vice versa. The course will help them develop critical thinking skills and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making the learning experience both engaging and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking and collaboration, as well as a reflection session to help students track their progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.
The city of Cambridge, with more than 800 years of academic tradition, has been central to our understanding of the human mind—from early studies in cognition to modern advances in neuroscience and behaviour. As part of the 16–17 Psychology programme, you’ll live in a city shaped by inquiry and discovery. The city of Cambridge provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its historic colleges, renowned museums, and a tradition of exploring how people think, feel, and behave.
Meals are provided on a full-board basis, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Students eat in the college dining hall or at local restaurants. All dietary requirements are catered for.
Meals are provided on a half-board basis, including breakfast and dinner. Meals are served at the accommodation or at local restaurants, offering a variety of dining options.
The Oxford Summer Courses Experience

With no fixed curriculum, you’re encouraged to share your interests when you apply, and our expert tutors will tailor the course content to reflect those passions wherever possible.
