Medicine is an advanced course designed for 18–24-year-olds who have a strong interest in pursuing a career in healthcare and want to deepen their knowledge of the medical field. Students will explore a wide range of topics, from diagnosing symptoms to addressing real-world issues such as funding crises and sustainable health systems. The course offers the chance to focus on specific specialisms, such as cardiology, surgery, or the future of medicine, and delve into advanced clinical theory, including case studies on essential physiology, public health debates, and the critical analysis of medical research. Our expert tutors will guide you through complex medical concepts, preparing you for the challenges of the healthcare industry. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning both engaging and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass on critical thinking and research skills, along with a reflection session to track progress and set new goals.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.

As part of the 18–24 Medicine (Advanced) programme, you’ll live in a city shaped by innovation and dedicated to improving human health. Meals are provided on a half-board basis (breakfast and dinner), served in college dining halls or at selected local restaurants. Students arrange their own lunch. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Medicine brings science and humanity together — aiming to improve lives through research, diagnosis, and compassionate care. In Cambridge, students explore complex medical themes such as disease mechanisms, global health challenges, and clinical decision-making. Case-based discussions and ethical debates help them understand how scientific discoveries translate into real outcomes for patients and communities.
This is an advanced-level course for students who have completed at least two years of undergraduate study (or equivalent) in a related field. Tutorials are capped at eight learners to ensure rigorous discussion and personalised academic guidance. Two independent assignments receive detailed tutor feedback that strengthens clinical reasoning, scientific communication, and preparation for further medical pathways. Alongside enrichment activities, college-style living, and collaboration with peers from around the world, students leave with a certificate of completion, a personalised tutor recommendation, and greater insight into the realities and responsibilities of medical study.
