Studying at Murray Edwards College

Our Cambridge summer school for ages 13–15 is hosted at Murray Edwards College, one of the University of Cambridge’s most forward-thinking colleges. Founded in 1954 as New Hall to expand access to higher education for women, the college was renamed Murray Edwards in 2008 and today remains a women-only institution with a proud tradition of progress and empowerment. The modernist architecture and strong community values create a bright, welcoming atmosphere ideal for summer study.

Murray Edwards is located on Huntingdon Road in northwest Cambridge—a peaceful, green area within walking distance of the historic city centre. From riverside walks and world-class museums to leafy gardens and quiet college lanes, Cambridge offers students a calm yet enriching environment to explore, connect, and grow. Whether it’s their first time in the UK or not, students will be immersed in a city shaped by centuries of academic excellence.

Who Studies Here and How They Learn

Our courses at Murray Edwards are designed for motivated students aged 13–15 who want to challenge themselves, explore new ideas, and gain confidence in a supportive academic setting. Each course welcomes around 40 students, forming a vibrant, international learning community where everyone is encouraged to share ideas and take part.

Classes are capped at eight students and often smaller, allowing tutors to tailor lessons to each group’s interests and pace. Through interactive seminars, group discussion, and hands-on activities, students learn to think critically, work collaboratively, and express their views with confidence. Independent research and in-class presentation tasks help build academic maturity in preparation for future study.

Accommodation and Facilities

Students stay in comfortable single bedrooms on the main college site. Each room is bright, functional, and located close to teaching spaces and common areas. Bathrooms are shared between 2–3 students depending on the accommodation block, and all bed linen and towels are provided. Kitchens are not accessible due to college policy, but meals and refreshments are managed on-site.

Beyond the classroom, students enjoy access to the college’s relaxing green spaces, including lawns for walks or informal activities. The Art Café in the main building offers light snacks and drinks, and the sports ground may be available for use during free time. These facilities help create a relaxed, community-focused atmosphere where students can feel at home throughout their stay.

FAQs about Venues and Tier Options

Can I choose my venue?

Sometimes. If you’re applying for a Junior (9–12), Eton (12–14), or Spain (15–17) course, your venue is fixed: Harrow School, Eton College, or Resa Vallehermoso in Madrid. For Oxford and Cambridge, your venue is assigned based on your age, subject, dates, and pricing tier. After you apply, an advisor will contact you to confirm the details — including your venue — and help with any questions before you confirm your place.

What are the pricing tiers and what do they mean?

For Oxford and Cambridge courses, you can choose from four pricing tiers: Classic, Plus, Superior, and Premier. All tiers include teaching, meals, and activities, with higher tiers offering extras like ensuite rooms, airport transfers, and more flexibility. Junior, Eton, and Spain courses have one fixed price that includes everything you need for a safe, structured, and rewarding experience.

What do I get in each tier?

All tiers include your course, meals, activities, and support throughout your stay. Higher tiers add benefits like private ensuite rooms, return airport transfers, travel insurance, premium merchandise, and more flexible booking terms. You can compare all tiers on our Prices and Dates page.

When will I find out my venue?

You’ll be told your assigned venue after you apply. One of our admissions advisors will contact you directly to confirm your course details — including where you’ll be staying. This is your chance to ask any questions or discuss options before you accept and pay your deposit.
