Studying at Lady Margaret Hall

Lady Margaret Hall (LMH) is a spacious and inclusive college in the north of Oxford, just a short walk from the city’s iconic museums, bookshops, and libraries. Founded in 1878 as one of the first women’s colleges at Oxford, LMH is now co-educational and known for its friendly community and academic excellence.

Our summer programmes hosted at LMH are tailored for two distinct age groups. Students aged 13–15 engage in seminar-style learning in groups of no more than 8, with sessions designed to introduce them to independent thinking, discussion, and collaboration. For ages 18–24, we offer a more advanced tutorial-style model, with students completing two pieces of independent work and exploring them through in-depth 1:1 or 2:1 tutorials.

Who Studies Here and How They Learn

Each age group at LMH benefits from an academic model suited to their stage of learning. Courses for 13–15-year-olds focus on foundational academic skills, group tasks, and the confidence to share ideas. Tutors lead interactive sessions that blend exploration, research, and discussion.

Students aged 18–24 work more independently, following the Oxford-style tutorial method. After participating in small-group seminars, they complete two written assignments (essays or problem sheets) and discuss their work in tutorials. This model encourages self-directed thinking, personal feedback, and deeper subject exploration. All students receive a certificate and letter of recommendation upon completing their course.

Accommodation and Facilities

All students are accommodated in single bedrooms on the main Lady Margaret Hall site, providing a secure and comfortable base throughout the course. For students aged 13–15, rooms typically include ensuite or shared bathrooms (1 between 4 students), with full pastoral care and supervision in place. For students aged 18–24, rooms may include either ensuite or shared facilities, depending on the building allocation. These older students enjoy more independence, though on-site support remains available as needed. All rooms include bed linen and towels, and kitchens are not accessible in line with college policy.

The college’s spacious layout and riverside grounds offer a relaxing environment for both study and social time. Students have access to on-site dining, laundry facilities, and common areas for group interaction. With its large central quadrangle and quiet green spaces, LMH provides a peaceful yet enriching setting that helps students recharge, connect with peers, and enjoy the rhythm of college life during the summer

FAQs about Venues and Tier Options

Can I choose my venue?

Sometimes. If you’re applying for a Junior (9–12), Eton (12–14), or Spain (15–17) course, your venue is fixed: Harrow School, Eton College, or Resa Vallehermoso in Madrid. For Oxford and Cambridge, your venue is assigned based on your age, subject, dates, and pricing tier. After you apply, an advisor will contact you to confirm the details — including your venue — and help with any questions before you confirm your place.

What are the pricing tiers and what do they mean?

For Oxford and Cambridge courses, you can choose from four pricing tiers: Classic, Plus, Superior, and Premier. All tiers include teaching, meals, and activities, with higher tiers offering extras like ensuite rooms, airport transfers, and more flexibility. Junior, Eton, and Spain courses have one fixed price that includes everything you need for a safe, structured, and rewarding experience.

What do I get in each tier?

All tiers include your course, meals, activities, and support throughout your stay. Higher tiers add benefits like private ensuite rooms, return airport transfers, travel insurance, premium merchandise, and more flexible booking terms. You can compare all tiers on our Prices and Dates page.

When will I find out my venue?

You’ll be told your assigned venue after you apply. One of our admissions advisors will contact you directly to confirm your course details — including where you’ll be staying. This is your chance to ask any questions or discuss options before you accept and pay your deposit.
