Our Approach to Summer Learning

At Oxford Summer Courses, we believe that where you learn makes a difference. That’s why we host our programmes in some of the UK’s most prestigious and inspiring educational settings—offering students the chance to live and learn in places steeped in academic tradition and excellence.

Unlike traditional summer schools, we don’t follow a fixed curriculum. Instead, we adapt our courses to each group, tailoring content to students’ interests and goals. With expert tutors and small group sizes, our approach promotes creativity, confidence, and curiosity. While tiered pricing options are available for older age groups, our junior courses at Eton are delivered as an all-inclusive experience—designed to provide maximum enrichment and support in one exceptional package.

Who Studies at Eton College?

Our courses at Eton are designed specifically for students aged 12–14 who are ready to explore subjects in greater depth while developing essential academic and social skills. Around 70 students attend each course, forming a friendly, supportive learning community.

All teaching is led by experienced primary educators and follows an interactive, task-based approach. Students take part in engaging group work, problem-solving exercises, games, and multimedia presentations—combining fun with meaningful learning. The content is age-appropriate and designed to encourage collaboration, curiosity, and critical thinking. It’s a step up from our 9–10 courses, with more independence and hands-on group projects that spark both confidence and creativity.

Accommodation and Facilities

Students stay in Eton’s traditional boarding houses, with girls in South Lawn and boys in Durnford. All rooms are single occupancy with shared bathrooms (toilets, showers, communal sinks), and each house includes a common room for relaxing and socialising. Bed linen is provided, but students should bring their own towels. A weekly laundry service is included, and our pastoral team offers round-the-clock support and supervision throughout the course.

Students also benefit from Eton’s exceptional facilities, including a swimming pool (used once a week), a large sports hall, outdoor playing fields, a theatre for talks and movie nights, and a marquee for Friday discos. Meals are served in the historic Bekynton dining hall. These spaces combine to offer a balanced experience of structured learning and fun, age-appropriate activities.

FAQs about Venues and Tier Options

Can I choose my venue?

Sometimes. If you’re applying for a Junior (9–12), Eton (12–14), or Spain (15–17) course, your venue is fixed: Harrow School, Eton College, or Resa Vallehermoso in Madrid. For Oxford and Cambridge, your venue is assigned based on your age, subject, dates, and pricing tier. After you apply, an advisor will contact you to confirm the details — including your venue — and help with any questions before you confirm your place.

What are the pricing tiers and what do they mean?

For Oxford and Cambridge courses, you can choose from four pricing tiers: Classic, Plus, Superior, and Premier. All tiers include teaching, meals, and activities, with higher tiers offering extras like ensuite rooms, airport transfers, and more flexibility. Junior, Eton, and Spain courses have one fixed price that includes everything you need for a safe, structured, and rewarding experience.

What do I get in each tier?

All tiers include your course, meals, activities, and support throughout your stay. Higher tiers add benefits like private ensuite rooms, return airport transfers, travel insurance, premium merchandise, and more flexible booking terms. You can compare all tiers on our Prices and Dates page.

When will I find out my venue?

You’ll be told your assigned venue after you apply. One of our admissions advisors will contact you directly to confirm your course details — including where you’ll be staying. This is your chance to ask any questions or discuss options before you accept and pay your deposit.
