Accommodation by Age Group

Students aged 9–12 attend courses at Harrow School, staying in single or twin rooms separated by gender. The environment provides 24/7 supervision, structured routines, and age-appropriate support. Those aged 12–14 study at Eton College and are housed in single rooms within historic boarding houses, also separated by gender and overseen by full-time residential staff to ensure a safe and supported experience.

Students aged 13–24 are placed in Oxford or Cambridge colleges such as Lady Margaret Hall, Worcester College, Somerville, Sidney Sussex, or Corpus Christi. Venue assignment is based on a combination of age, course subject, dates, and pricing tier. While students don’t choose their exact venue, each one has been carefully selected to offer the right balance of academic focus, independence, and support at each stage of a student’s development. Learn more on our venues page.

How Room Types Vary by Tier

Room types vary across age groups to ensure comfort, safety, and an appropriate level of independence. For example, 9–12s typically stay in shared or twin rooms with round-the-clock supervision, while 12–14s have their own single rooms. For ages 13–24, room allocation depends more heavily on the pricing tier selected, with older students often placed in single or ensuite rooms depending on availability.

Oxford Summer Courses offers four pricing tiers for students aged 13–24: Classic, Plus, Superior, and Premier. These tiers determine room type, from shared or standard single rooms at Classic level, to guaranteed premium ensuite rooms at the Premier level. Applying early helps ensure access to your preferred tier and increases the likelihood of securing the best available room in your age group. Learn more on our prices and dates page.

Accommodation Across Our Venues

Oxford Summer Courses takes place in some of the UK’s most iconic educational institutions — from ancient Oxford colleges to prestigious boarding schools. You cannot choose a specific venue at application, but we match students to venues based on their age group, course, dates, and tier.

While room styles differ by venue, all offer high standards of comfort, academic focus, and security. From riverside colleges to modern student residences, every room is gender- and age-appropriate, supervised, and designed to help students thrive. Use our Course Finder to explore subjects and age groups by location.

What to Pack for Your Stay

While Oxford Summer Courses provides furnished rooms and daily essentials, students should bring clothing suitable for all UK weather, personal toiletries, comfortable footwear, and any required medication. Students staying longer than a week may want to pack a laundry kit or use onsite laundry services where available.

Academic materials — including a notebook, pens, and ideally a laptop — are strongly recommended. We also suggest bringing a reusable water bottle, plug adapters (UK standard), and a book or two for downtime. You’ll receive a full packing checklist once your place is confirmed.

Arrival and Check-In Details

Students usually arrive on a Sunday, which marks the beginning of their Oxford Summer Courses experience. Orientation sessions, safeguarding briefings, and welcome events are held on the first day to help students settle in and feel at home.

Our trained staff are on hand from the moment students arrive. For international students, airport transfers can be arranged as part of the booking process, ensuring a smooth and safe transition from travel to campus. Read our Safeguarding and Welfare Guide for more information.

Why Our Accommodation Stands Out

Our venues offer rare access to world-famous institutions — most of which are closed to the general public. These settings blend rich academic tradition with modern comfort, creating an environment that’s intellectually and socially inspiring.

Whether you're walking through the cloisters of a Cambridge college or exploring the historic halls of Eton, your accommodation is part of what makes the Oxford Summer Courses experience special. It’s not just where you’ll sleep — it’s where you’ll grow.

"My tutor at Oxford Summer Courses was really insightful and helped us ease into the subject. We had many debates on our views regarding certain philosophical debates such as \u2018Do we really have Knowledge?\u2019 The best part of the summer school at Oxford Summer Courses was that we were in a small class, about 3 of us, so everyone was included in the discussions, and nobody was left out."
