Outline
Media Studies is designed for 13–15-year-olds who are interested in how modern media shapes the world. Students will explore the history of media, how films, TV shows, and games are produced, and the impact of different genres and topics on mass audiences. They’ll develop critical thinking skills as they analyse the influence of media on society and learn how to communicate ideas effectively. Through a mix of solo and group study, they’ll gain hands-on experience and learn to think more critically about storytelling in films, music, and social media. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning both engaging and relevant. The course also includes a masterclass on teamwork and collaboration, along with a reflection session to help students track their goals and progress.
Teaching methodology
Learning in a small group (no more than 8 students and often fewer) means that you get quality time with your teacher and ask as many questions as you like! Through interactive learning, our teachers will guide you through new concepts and assign you practice tasks to build your knowledge and skills. You will also have an opportunity for group work, independent research, and homework assignments to be discussed in class. Small classes mean everyone gets to have their say, and students learn from debating with one another, as well as from their tutor.
The city of Cambridge, with over 800 years of academic tradition, has long been a hub for communication and creativity—from early printing and publishing to modern studies of media and technology. As part of the 13–15 Media Studies programme, your child will live in a city shaped by ideas and innovation. The city of Cambridge provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its historic colleges, cultural institutions, and a tradition of exploring how media influences the world.
Accommodation is available in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier chosen. Plus students can choose single or twin, Superior guarantees an ensuite, and Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All options include shared spaces and on-course staff for support.
Meals are provided on a full-board basis, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Students eat in the college dining hall or at local restaurants. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Through film, news, advertising, and social platforms, they uncover the techniques behind messaging and persuasion, learning to spot bias, decode meaning, and communicate ideas with creativity and confidence. It’s an inspiring introduction for students who are curious about storytelling, influence, and the role media plays in shaping society.
Each weekday includes small seminar-style lessons (maximum 8 students) guided by tutors who spark lively discussion and encourage independent thinking. Afternoons blend directed study, creative challenges, and hands-on projects — such as designing campaigns or producing digital media — helping students apply what they learn in practical ways. With supportive pastoral care, structured social time, and guided independence, students thrive both academically and personally. They leave with sharper critical-thinking skills, stronger communication, and a deeper understanding of how media connects people and ideas across the world.
