Outline
Environmental Science is designed for 16–17-year-olds who are passionate about understanding and addressing global environmental challenges. Students will explore topics like climate change, pollution, and the political and economic context of environmental issues. They’ll learn about sustainability, how past climate shifts have influenced human development, and the political implications of current environmental trends. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors tailor the course to the group’s interests, making learning engaging and relevant. The course includes tutorial Q&A sessions, an academic skills masterclass, expert speakers, and visits to different Oxford colleges. Students will also have the opportunity to attend a university fair to explore future career pathways.
Teaching methodology
Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Your expert tutor will foster self-directed learning and critical thinking through interactive seminars in small groups (no bigger than 8). During your course, you will complete two pieces of independent work (essays or problem sheets), which your tutor will then evaluate in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your work and feedback with your tutor and learn new perspectives from your classmates. On completion of the course, you'll receive a certificate and letter of recommendation from your tutor.
The city of Oxford, with nearly 1,000 years of academic history, has been associated with pioneering environmental research, from the study of ecosystems to work on climate change and conservation. As part of the 16–17 Environmental Science programme, you’ll live in a city shaped by discovery and inquiry. The city of Oxford provides an inspiring backdrop for learning, with its green spaces, renowned museums, and long tradition of exploring how we understand and protect the natural world.
Accommodation is in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier. Plus lets you choose single or twin; Superior guarantees an ensuite; Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All include shared spaces and on-course staff support.
Meals are half-board (breakfast and dinner), served in college dining halls or selected local restaurants, with students arranging their own lunch. All dietary requirements are catered for.

With seminars capped at eight students, learning is interactive and driven by discussion, data analysis, and case studies tailored to the group’s interests. Independent projects are supported through tutorial-style sessions, helping students develop clear evidence-based arguments and resilient problem-solving skills. Life in an Oxford college setting, alongside excursions and enrichment activities, deepens their perspective and builds confidence. Students leave with a certificate of completion, personalised tutor recommendation, and a stronger sense of how they can contribute to global environmental solutions.
The British Museum, located in the heart of London, is one of the world's most renowned museums, housing a vast and diverse collection of over 8 million historical artefacts from all corners of the globe. Founded in 1753, the museum covers over 2 million years of human history, from ancient civilisations to modern times.
Visiting Warwick Castle is an opportunity to explore the rich history of this magnificent medieval fortress. It dates back to the 11th century and has played a significant role in English history. Students can explore the castle's impressive collection of buildings and exhibitions, as well as witness jousting tournaments, falconry displays, and other live shows.
The Tower of London is a historic castle and fortress that has served as a royal palace, prison, and even a zoo over the centuries. Visitors can explore its impressive collection of buildings and exhibitions, including the iconic White Tower, the Crown Jewels, and the medieval palace. They can also learn about the infamous prisoners who were held in the tower over the centuries, including Anne Boleyn and Guy Fawkes.
Visiting Westminster in London is a must-see for anyone interested in the city's rich history and iconic landmarks.
