Defining a research paper

A research paper is a piece of academic writing that provides analysis, interpretation and argumentation based on in‑depth, independent research. 5. Gather sources: Use academic journals, books, and reputable websites.  Evaluate each source’s credibility.
6. Write the paper: Follow your outline.  Present evidence logically and cite sources properly.
7. Revise and edit: Check for clarity, coherence and adherence to citation styles.

Research paper vs. essay or thesis
