Our Relationship with Oxford

Oxford Summer Courses operates independently and is not affiliated with the University of Oxford. However, our programmes are inspired by the city’s distinctive academic culture — one that values curiosity, independent thought, and open dialogue.

By studying within authentic Oxford college settings, students experience the atmosphere that has shaped generations of thinkers. It’s not about imitating university life, but about learning in the same spirit of curiosity and reflection that defines Oxford itself.

Courses for Ages 16–17: Independent Learners

Our courses for ages 16–17 are designed for students who want to explore subjects they’re passionate about — or discover new ones they’ve never had the chance to study before. Each class is small and interactive, with no more than eight students, creating space for meaningful discussion and genuine intellectual connection.

Subjects include Science, Medicine, Law, Politics, Business, Creative Writing, and more. Each course encourages independent thought and collaboration, helping students build confidence in expressing ideas, solving problems, and thinking beyond textbooks — wherever their learning journey may lead.

The Academic Experience

Learn the Oxford way with tutorial-style teaching. Students take part in interactive seminars and small-group discussions guided by tutors who are passionate about their fields. Learning is exploratory and student-driven, encouraging curiosity and active engagement.

Throughout the course, students complete two pieces of independent work — essays or problem sheets — which are reviewed and discussed in either a 1:1 or 2:1 tutorial. Tutorials are the heart of the experience: a space for dialogue, challenge, and reflection. Each student leaves with a certificate and a letter of recommendation, recognising their growth, effort, and achievement.

Life in the City of Oxford

For students aged 16–17, Oxford offers the perfect balance of independence, inspiration, and community. It’s a city steeped in history but alive with creativity — where bookshops, museums, and cafés sit alongside ancient colleges and libraries. Every walk through Oxford feels like an invitation to learn something new.

Students stay in college accommodation, experiencing life within Oxford’s vibrant academic setting. Evenings are filled with social activities, cultural events, and shared meals — moments that help students unwind, connect, and make lifelong friendships. It’s an experience that blends learning with living, giving students a genuine sense of belonging in one of the world’s great academic cities.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At Oxford Summer Courses, we believe learning should extend beyond lectures. Students explore Oxford’s landmarks, museums, and galleries — connecting ideas to real-world stories and experiences. Excursions might include visits to the Ashmolean Museum, the Bodleian Library, or cultural trips beyond the city.

Every experience is designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding. Whether it’s a debate in a college quad, a discovery in a museum, or a conversation over dinner, students leave with new perspectives — and the confidence to keep asking questions long after the course ends.
