Maths is a vast subject. One of the big benefits of this summer course is that it provides a great introduction to university maths, where you will get a sense of where the subject can lead you and what exactly you can do with it. You are particularly encouraged to pursue your own areas of interest through our interactive, tutorial-style teaching – taken from the renowned Cambridge University.
Disciplines range from calculus and statistics through to the philosophy of mathematics. Whatever your individual interests, in this Cambridge summer course in mathematics you will look at these areas more conceptually. Due to the small tutorial groups, our tutors can focus on your specific needs and interests – meaning you go away with a much more personable and relevant learning experience.
Sam Crawford is a mathematical physicist currently studying for a Master’s at St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge. He has a strong passion for teaching as well as learning and has given many hours of tutorials throughout his undergraduate studies. On the mathematics side, he is most interested in differential geometry, the study of smooth shapes and their properties (usually in 4 dimensions!). This ties in heavily with his interests within physics, which focus on understanding our most fundamental theories of nature: quantum field theory and general relativity.
Dr Monique Van BeekBIO
Dr. Van Beek gained a PhD in Computational Number Theory from the University of Cambridge and after a brief spell as a Quant Researcher, is currently a maths teacher at North London Collegiate School in Jeju, South Korea. While at Cambridge, she interviewed candidates for admission to maths, as well as working as a supervisor for a variety of colleges and pure maths courses.
Dr Sonia WojciechowskaBIO
Dr. Sonia Wojciechowska is a biotechnologist and a researcher. She studied Biotechnology and Genetic Diagnostics for her undergraduate and masters degrees in Poland, Norway and the UK. She then obtained her PhD in Molecular and Clinical Medicine from the University of Edinburgh and currently specialises in cancer research. During her doctorate, Sonia developed and characterized two new transgenic zebrafish models of human melanoma (one of them in a close collaboration with another group at the University of Cambridge) and used them to study tumour resistance mechanisms to therapy. In October 2018 she will be moving to Boston, US to broaden her research field into pediatric oncology at Harvard Medical School.
