If you’re passionate about the past, then you may be interested in joining us for a History summer course. But why should you attend? What can you get out of it? Read about our top 5 reasons to join us below:

Who’s Eligible to Apply to Oxford Summer Courses?

Eligibility for standard courses across all age groups (ages 9-24) requires applicants to be proficient in English and possess a keen interest in exploring the subjects they are applying for. For advanced courses in Cambridge for ages 18-24, students must have completed at least the second year of an undergraduate qualification (or equivalent) in the same area as the subject they wish to study. Apply now to check your eligibility and apply for our courses.

History is still relevant

Of course a lot of what you learn on a history course will be analysing things that have happened in the past, but there will also be the opportunity to learn about modern history. To make sense of current political or social affairs, it’s important to study how history is still affecting us; what happened in the past and how it has influenced the world we live in today.

Transferable skills

Whilst studying history, you’ll be developing a range of skills which you can use during your academia and throughout your career.

A lot of history involves studying the past; evidence, journals, news articles and more. You’ll be developing your analytical skills, and using your critical thinking to compile information to form opinions around topics and produce debates for essays and class discussions. These are all invaluable skills that you’ll benefit from throughout your studies and your future career.

Cultural awareness

By examining the history of different societies and nationalities, you’ll create a better understanding of why certain people act the way that they do. By studying these various tributaries of humanity, you’ll become more conscientious; broadening your cultural awareness and become more aware of the people around you and sensitive to differences in opinion.

A good start for university study

If you’re looking to apply to university soon to study history or a different essay-based subject, then a history summer course would be a good first step in your application. As already mentioned above, participating in a history summer course can set you up with a whole range of transferable skills that will benefit you throughout your education.

Universities will look favourably upon your willingness to study outside of your classes, as well as your dedication to improve your skill base and knowledge of a particular subject. All show a passion for learning and (if you want to study it at higher education), a passion for history.

And, if you join one of our courses, we’ll give you a truly authentic university experience, so you’ll know exactly what to expect when you start as an undergraduate!

Summer of a lifetime

Our History summer course offers students the rare opportunity to spend two weeks staying and studying at the prestigious University of Oxford or Cambridge.

Learning from expert tutors, many of whom have taught or studied at the universities themselves, students will receive an immersive programme of teaching, including small seminar groups, 1:1 tutorials (for students over the age of 16), and independent study time.

Aside from learning, our enriching cultural timetable will also introduce students to a whole range of exciting extracurricular activities and day trips. Expect traditional university formals, punting, and trips to iconic British sites and museums – it really is the summer of a lifetime!
