Preguntas frecuentes sobre visados
If you’re travelling from outside the UK and Ireland, you’ll most likely need either a Standard Visitor Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to attend Oxford Summer Courses. Which one applies depends on your nationality and how long you plan to stay. Students from countries such as the United States, India, and China usually require a Standard Visitor Visa, while students from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE may be eligible for an ETA.
Once you’ve booked your course, our team will confirm exactly which visa type you need and provide detailed instructions. You can also use the UK Government’s “Check if you need a UK visa” tool to verify your requirements, but we’ll make the process simple by sending you direct links and guidance as part of your pre-departure support.
We recommend applying as soon as you receive your Visa Support Letter from us. Standard Visitor Visa applications open from 8 January, and ETA applications open from 5 March. Applying early helps you avoid processing delays, which can be common during the busy summer months.
If you need a decision quickly, the UK Government’s Priority or Super Priority Service can often process visas within five working days. Our team will guide you on the best timing for your application and send reminders when the application windows open, ensuring you stay on track and fully prepared.
To apply for your visa, you’ll need a passport, your Visa Support Letter from Oxford Summer Courses, and proof of your return travel plans and sufficient funds to cover your stay. Some students may also need to provide details of accommodation or parental consent if under 18. Once you’ve confirmed your place, we’ll send a step-by-step checklist that outlines everything you need to include.
When travelling to the UK, carry your key documents — passport, visa or ETA, Visa Support Letter, and course confirmation — in your hand luggage. Border officers may ask about your course or return plans, and having these ready ensures your entry process is smooth and stress-free.
After you confirm your booking and pay your course fees, we provide an official Visa Support Letter to assist your visa application. We also offer guidance on which visa or ETA you will likely need and are available to answer any visa-related questions during the process.
