A Different Kind of Scholarship
We’re introducing a limited number of merit-based scholarships for students who demonstrate exceptional academic potential and a strong capacity for independent thinking.
Designed for students who thrive in tutorial-style learning environments, these awards recognise curiosity, thoughtful discussion, and the ability to engage critically with ideas.
Scholarships cover up to 50% of programme fees and are awarded through a competitive selection process.
How to Apply
Students must first submit an Oxford Summer Courses application to be considered for the Independent Thinking Scholarship.
Selected students will then receive an invitation email with full scholarship application details, including essay prompts, written response questions, and submission guidance.

Application Requirements
Students invited to apply for the scholarship will complete a 600–800 word analytical essay, two short written responses, and may also include recent or predicted grades alongside an optional teacher reference.
We are interested not in a “right” answer, but in your ability to build arguments, engage critically with ideas, and communicate your thinking clearly
Selection Process
Scholarships are awarded through a competitive review process based on strength and clarity of argument, originality and independence of thought, engagement with complex ideas, and overall academic readiness.
Due to the competitive nature of the process, not all strong applicants will receive an award.
