Study Chemistry with Oxford Summer Courses

Chemistry Summer School

Chemistry is the study of the interactions of chemical substances. The knowledge that chemistry provides is crucial to advances in industry, medicine and our understanding of the world around us. Generally the study of chemistry is broken into smaller subjects: Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry and Mathematics for Chemistry.

Our chemistry courses aims to give you a chance to explore the areas of the subject that interest you, with one-to-one tutorials ensuring that personal focus is not lost during your time in Oxford. Read more about our course options and find out more detail by exploring below.

Christopher

Christopher Hutchinson

Christopher Hutchinson is a chemistry tutor for the Oxford Summer Courses, giving a two-week course on the Introduction to Quantum Mechanics for Chemistry. He has been based at the University of Oxford for the past six years, where he gained his undergraduate and Master’s degree in Chemistry at Christ Church (2010-2014), before staying on at the University for graduate research in the Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Department. His research interests primarily concern the applications of novel laser systems for the detection of trace gases in exhaled human breath. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate students, including the First Year Biophysical Chemistry course for students reading Biochemistry at Corpus Christ and St Peter’s Colleges. When not in the laboratory or teaching, he trains and competes for the university triathlon club.

Yaoyao

Yaoyao Xiong

Yaoyao Xiong is a 2nd year DPhil student in the department of Chemistry at University of Oxford. She graduated in 2014 with Bachelor of Science (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University. Her Honours project involves the synthesis of transition-metal methylidyne complexes.  She has another research publication from a rotation project on halogen bonding systems and a third paper is a literature review on cascade polycyclisation in natural product synthesis. She has been tutoring in Chemistry since 2011.
