Main duties and responsibilities

As the Activity Manager, you’ll ensure the planning, preparation, and delivery of the activities that take place onsite during our summer courses. Additionally, you will liaise with the Head Office Operations Executive (Juniors) and external suppliers to ensure the daily activities, weekly trip and weekend excursion are well-planned and executed.

Location: Harrow or Windsor. Residential role at no extra cost to the employee, meals provided when on duty. You’ll work and live in one of the most prestigious schools in the UK.

Pay and hours: £600 per week on a fixed term contract. Monday to Sunday up to 50 hours per week on a shift pattern with overnight duties, 1 day off per week (Saturday).

Reports to: Course Director and Deputy Course Director

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinate the planning and delivery of the social and cultural programme for students aged 9‒12 at one of our boarding school sites.
  • Oversee the organisation and delivery of excursions and on-site activities within a set budget.
  • Liaise with the host school to ensure spaces are safe and suitable for activities.
  • Administrative duties, including registration tracking and gathering marketing material.
  • Support other course staff to deliver a high quality programme.
  • Build rapport with students, set correct behaviour expectations and ensure swift response to any welfare or safeguarding issues.
  • Raise student discipline, welfare, and safeguarding concerns with the Course Director and Deputy.
  • Share overnight duties, responding appropriately to any issues that arise.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful image of the company and yourself at all times.

Minimum requirements

  • Experience in a position of authority working with children or young people
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Extensive experience in activity planning and management
  • Strong partnership management experience
  • Able to work to a prepared budget
  • General competency in IT skills
  • Right to work in the UK (we cannot sponsor work visas for this role)

Person specification

An ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Good judgement and conviction in decision-making
  • Knowledge of health and safety, emergency, and child safeguarding protocols
  • Activity planning and management
  • Initiative and leadership

Experience you may have:

  • Working in a leadership position in summer schools or holiday camps
  • Working in activity-based tourism with children or young people
  • Working in other roles at Oxford Summer Courses

Pre-interview task

If you are invited to an interview you will be asked to submit a pre-interview task. We ask for this to be sent 48 hours in advance so that your interviewer can review it and consult the wider team if necessary.

Interview

Interviews will take place either online using Google Meet or at our offices in Oxford or Cambridge—you will be informed via an email invitation. After being introduced to the role, you will be asked about your relevant experience. Your interviewer will also find out how you respond to scenarios that often arise in this role. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and find out more throughout. All applicants are required to bring documents to the interview. Details on documents accepted for DBS a check can be found at gov.uk.

Role assignment

Students sign up to courses throughout the year, so positions will be filled on a rolling basis. This may mean that we will be unable to confirm the details of vacancies at the interview. If you are made an offer we will contact you separately to offer specific roles, dates, and location.
