The colleges are located throughout the city of Cambridge, all within walking distance of the city centre, which has historical buildings, tourist attractions, and shops.

Hughes Hall College was founded in 1885 as a college for “advanced students” by Elizabeth Wordsworth, a great-niece of the poet William Wordsworth. Throughout its history, Hughes Hall has produced many notable alumni, including the writer Alison Uttley, the American lawyer Evan Wallach, and the author Mary Vivian Hughes.
