Study Theology Oxford Summer Courses

Theology

Theology attempts to answer some of the biggest religious questions that face, and have faced mankind, for millennia. Indeed, Oxford has taught Theology for almost that long; it is the oldest established subject at the University. Even today Oxford leads the way in many areas of Theology, especially in the study of the Christian Faith. Many of the greatest theologians of the last decades have taught or studied here at Oxford.

We can’t provide you with answers to questions about the existence of God, but we can point you to those fine minds that have attempted to tackle them in the past. The course provides an introduction to the basis of the Christian religion and the texts that informed its earliest development, looking at how their interpretation has changed over time, reflecting the societies that have grown up alongside them. The course also offers an opportunity to study other religious doctrines, and we welcome people from diverse backgrounds to study in a multicultural environment.

Courses

We use small group seminars to ensure that you get greater attention than you could elsewhere. Theology

The 16-17 year olds course is designed for those who have a strong interest in Theology, International Relations, Politics, or Philosophy. It assumes no prior study in the field, and offers the opportunity to study a number of different religious doctrines, and we look forward to welcoming a diverse range of students to study Theology this year.

At the end of the course students will have a good understanding of the development and diversity in Christian thought on war and peace, how it has affected the course of world events in the past, and how it remains a relevant consideration in the world today.

Nissrin Nabil - Student from 2015

My two weeks at Oxford Summer Courses were like a dream. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I loved meeting new people from all around the world, you get to learn about different cultures and you learn to accept others the way they are. It has given me a new perspective on things and i’ve learned that a person should never limit himself to the society he/she lives in. Oxford too is an amazing city. You go back in time just by looking at the walls, towers, colleges and basically everything around you. The environment is fantastic. On top of this we had tours almost everyday and we had the chance to go to awesome places like Windsor Castle, Blenheim Palace, Museums and Bodleian Library where we saw books that date back to 16th and 17th century.
