Harry Hortyn – Director/Co-Founder
Meet Harry Hortyn, one of our Directors and Co-Founders. Harry’s responsible for setting Oxford Summer Courses’ strategy. Harry studied a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and a MPhil in Political Theory both from the University of Oxford. Prior to Oxford Summer Courses, Harry spent 5 years at Social Finance, helping charities and social enterprises create business plans and build investment proposals. Outside of the office, Harry enjoys listening to Philosophy podcasts and scoring goals for his 11-a-side football team.
Robert Phipps – Director/Co-Founder
Meet our other Co-Founder and Director, Robert Phipps. Rob studied History at Oxford and then tutored internationally before moving into the corporate world as a strategy consultant. He’s an expert on advising, deciding and drawing up a plan to meet a goal. And just as well – having taught over 4,000 students now, Oxford Summer Courses is fast-becoming synonymous with success and international reach. Outside of the office, Rob can be found (but maybe not caught) cycling in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside
Rachel Parr, MBE – Senior Operations Manager
Meet Rachel Parr, our Senior Operations Manager. She manages all of the practical elements involved with delivering our courses – from structures and processes to safety, safeguarding, policies and planning. With a degree in Archaeology and 20 years serving as a Professional Logistician in the British Army under her belt, her problem-solving and analytical skills really transfer here. Outside of the office, Rachel believes in random acts of kindness, spending time with friends and family, and 1970s rock.
Dr Chris Adamson – Programme Manager
Meet Dr Chris Adamson, our Programme Manager. Chris heads up the programmes for our courses in Oxford and at Wycombe Abbey. With a string of Classics qualifications from St Andrews, Wolfson College, and St Cross College, and having previously lectured on multiple cruises around the Mediterranean Sea, he knows the crucial elements of what makes an engaging, insightful course. Chris enjoys nurturing students and watching them flourish in their chosen fields. Chris also likes to settle into watching classic films, listening to an eclectic mix of music, and supporting Aston Villa.
Christian Schumann Perez – Admissions Manager
Meet Christian Schumann Perez, our Admissions Manager. Christian leads our student recruitment and admissions division for our world-class courses and applies his business marketing, finance and administration skills to all aspects of his role. He’s well travelled; having spent time on exchange programmes in Germany, Sweden and The Netherlands (as well as visiting 101 cities!) and lists his hobbies outside the office as tennis, cycling, sailing, photography, tech, and good time with the family.
Dr Guillermo Tirelli – Technical Officer
Meet Dr Guillermo Tirelli, our Technical Officer. A born techie, he has a PHD from the Sorbonne and has taught, wrote, and interacted in projects ranging from human sciences and arts to digital technologies. Guillermo is fascinated by the connection of humans and robots and has explored their relationships extensively. He cites the Oxford Summer Courses team as the ‘best office team he’s ever met’ and outside of the office, enjoys good food, good books and contemporary classical music.
Laura Haigh – Finance and HR Controller
Meet Laura Haigh, our Finance and HR Controller. Laura does a fine job of looking after our people and our money, and with qualifications in both Law and French Law and experience in corporate tax with some impressive multinationals, she’s well prepped to keep everyone happy and within budget. Outside of the office, Laura enjoys spending time with family and friends, gigs, and travel.
Hayley Reader-Curtis – Senior Academic Programmes Manager
Meet Hayley Reader-Curtis, our Senior Academic Programmes Manager. Hayley has a firm grip on the education sector, having spent five years running tuition centres for one of the country’s largest Maths and English tuition companies and became their lead National Curriculum trainer too. She thoroughly enjoys developing and improving courses for students so they can get the most out of studying with us. Outside of the office, she likes musicals, reading, and baking.
Monika Jerszynska – Cambridge Programmes Manager
Meet Monika Jerszynska, our Cambridge Programmes Manager. Thanks to her excellent attention to detail and creative flair, Monika organises and delivers our Cambridge programme efficiently for the most engaging, memorable experience. With a wealth of expertise under her belt, including two Masters degrees in Sociology and Linguistics, Monika translates her varied skills to her role for the greatest results and impact. Outside of the office, Monika is passionate about preserving the environment, having planted 1200 trees, established food banks and even won the Women Protecting our Environment award at Manchester International Women’s Day. Way to go, Monika!
Leigh Joslin – Admissions Executive
Meet Leigh Joslin, our Admissions Executive. With a Masters Degree in Scriptwriting and BA (Hons) in Video & Film Production, he has the creative vision to bring something new to the table – and the office! That, coupled with previous roles in education at the University of Wolverhampton, makes him a valuable asset to the team. He’s a high-flyer outside of academics too – when he is not writing, Leigh loves a game of football, going to the cinema, and visiting new cities and countries.
Meredith Bayley – Marketing Manager
Meet Meredith Bayley, our Marketing Manager. Meredith coordinates our marketing activities across social media, email and advertising. With a degree in International Relations and experience in various marketing positions in the U.S (including four years at National Geographic), she has the ideal mix of skills and aptitude to deliver world-class marketing to match our world-class courses. Outside of the office, Meredith enjoys travelling, hiking, and discovering new music.
Alex Whitton – Operations Officer
Meet Alex Whitton, our Operations Officer. Alex is responsible for creating systems that help our courses run smoothly and also updating/editing our systems weekly. Alex knows our courses inside-out having worked as a Student Helper and Assistant Course Director on previous courses before starting his role in the office. A dedicated fundraiser too, applying time to local charities and initiatives, he’s a real people person which helps immensely with our diverse group. Outside of the office, he’s a foodie and bookworm.
Alexandru Gorgos – Web Developer
Meet Alexandru Gorgos, our Web Developer. Alexandru started out as in IT Consultant, before developing skills as a Front-End Developer, and then more recently, a Web Developer. With a BS in Computer Science for Business Management and a BA in Marketing, he’s a valuable asset to the team. Outside of work, Alexandru enjoys good music and sharing his passion for new tech with friends.
Hannah Kedward – Programme Support Officer
Meet Hannah Kedward, our Programme Support Officer. She’s in charge of organising the social and cultural side of our courses and also manages staff recruitment, bookings, and transport. With a degree in Sport, Coaching & Physical Education from Oxford Brookes, she has the stamina to cope with a varied role. Outside the office, Hannah has a passion for social history, travel, and good food and her proudest achievement has been jumping out of a plane on her birthday.
Lisa McCarthy – Cambridge Academic Coordinator
Meet Lisa McCarthy, our Cambridge Academic Coordinator. She develops our academic programmes and supports our expert tutors in Cambridge. And with good reason – with a BA in Natural Sciences and MSc in Materials Science from the University itself, she knows the place inside out. She’s also worked in the education sector before, teaching maths and science to young people and developing course content. Outside of the office, Lisa loves to cook, play board games, and listen to the latest science podcasts.
Emily Bell – Academic Coordinator
Meet Emily Bell, our Academic Coordinator. Emily’s responsible for developing our academic courses nationally and internationally and has a genuine passion for global study. She moved to South Korea after graduating and taught English as a foreign language for over four years. Now she’s back, with a wealth of knowledge to transfer to our courses! Outside of the office, she enjoys gardening, travelling, and the outdoors. And it’s thanks to her that the office garden is looking so lush and green.
Max Humpston – Admissions Officer
Meet Max Humpston, our Admissions Officer. Max manages our student recruitment and business development. He enjoys building relationships with our students and discovering about their unique career paths. A keen traveller himself, he’s worked in Spain and Hong Kong in a variety of roles from technology to law. Outside of the office, he can be found (or heard) thrashing out the riffs on his guitar or thrashing it out on the tennis courts.
Charlotte Sabin – Admissions Officer
Meet Charlotte Sabin, our Admissions Officer. After graduating with an MA in Professional Writing, Charlotte taught English in Northeast Thailand for two years. She has worked in the summer school industry since 2012, including as a Course Director in Oxford for our 13-15’s and as a chaperone on our course with Stanford University. Outside of the office, she enjoys exploring the best new places to eat and drink in the city.
Elizabeth Buckley – Junior Marketing Officer
Meet Elizabeth Buckley, our Junior Marketing Officer. She heads up the creation of our social media and website content. With a Masters in History and a BA in International Relations, she brings a wealth of knowledge to the team and realises the importance of collaborating with our peers across the pond. Outside the office, Elizabeth can be found cycling through the city and reading in the sunshine.
Kirsty Ralston – Academic Coordinator
Meet Kirsty Ralston, our Academic Coordinator. Kirsty is in charge of time tabling and delivering our academic courses. With a degree in Drama and Theatre and a variety of roles to her name, including retail, phone operations and freelance acting, she’s able to switch between duties with ease and enjoys the vibrant, social culture of Oxford Summer Courses. Outside of the office, Kirsty likes cats and dancing.
Napa Saengkrachang – Finance and HR Support
Meet Napa Saengkrachang, our Finance and HR Support Officer. Napa deals with all our purchase orders, invoices, and internal staff concerns. With a degree in Psychology and experience in supporting roles at The University of Lincoln’s Students’ Union, she’s a real people person and ensures all our staff are happy, productive, and content. Outside of the office, Napa enjoys cooking, Espresso Martinis, and board games.
Marianna Lanza – Cambridge Programme Support
Meet Marianna Lanza, our Cambridge Programme Support Officer. With a range of qualifications including a MPhil in Comparative Literature and a MA in History of Art and Comparative Literature, Marianna’s communicative and analytical skills are well utilised here at Oxford Summer Courses. Marianna finds her role rewarding when she sees how much our students are growing academically and individually from our courses. Outside of the office, she enjoys films, sports, and going to the beach.
Amber Rankin – Tutor Network Coordinator
Meet Amber Ranking, our Tutor Network Coordinator. Amber heads up our Tutor Community and networking events and enjoys collaborating and bringing people together. With a degree in Fine Art, she’s able to approach obstacles creatively and her proudest moment is when her designs were sold at the Ashmolean. Outside of the office, Amber favours crepes and swimming.
Carly Stonehouse – Programme Manager (Delivery Lead)
Meet Carly Stonehouse, our Programme Manager and Delivery Lead. With a degree in History and International Relations, coupled with her experience as Head of Faculty in a top-performing state school for five years (plus experience working in China), Carly is well placed at Oxford Summer Courses to deliver international academic excellence. Outside of the office, Carly enjoys travelling, reading and watching rugby with family and friends.
