Medicine Explorers
Oxford has taught medicine since the 1300s and remains at the cutting edge of the discipline today. The course at Oxford Summer Courses introduces you to the practical study of medicine through medical biology and anatomy. You will consider ethical questions about the value of a human life and the possibility of human enhancement. You will build a solid understanding of the foundations of medical science, and have the opportunity to engage with the latest developments in medicine.

We use small group seminars to ensure that you get greater attention than you could elsewhere. On top of that if you're aged 16-17 or 18-24 then you'll receive weekly tutorials from leading academics mirroring the teaching method that makes Oxford a world-renowned university. Did you know that your skin is your largest organ? Or, that your blood vessels laid end to end would wrap around the world more than ten times? Have you ever wondered about your body, how it heals and what it's really like to be a doctor? Take our amazing Medicine Explorers course and you'll get to test out how doctors find out what illness or injury a patient has and how patients get healed. You'll get the chance to examine your own 'patient', work out what's wrong, and start helping them to get better. Your teacher will guide you through the exciting world of medicine and show you how it has changed over time and what the future holds. You'll learn about your body, how amazing it is, and how doctors are the real superheroes...what sort of doctor will you become?

Dr Gauri Ang

Dr Gauri Ang

Dr. Gauri Ang completed a BSc in Biomedical Sciences in University College London, where she learnt about the workings of the human body. During her second year at university, she participated in a summer internship at the University of Cambridge, where she investigated the roles of certain genes in learning and memory. She then completed her DPhil in Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, investigating the role of schizophrenia-relevant genes in the generation of body clocks, sleep, and cognition. Her teaching experiences include teaching English in India as well as current affairs to students in Singapore. At Oxford Summer Courses, she is teaching Medicine to 13-15 year-old and 16-18 year-old students

Dr Martina Dalton

Dr Martina Dalton studied Medical sciences and Clinical Medicine at the Brasenose College, University of Oxford. She completed Foundation training and Core Medical training in London and completed her Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2014. She has most recently been working as a registrar in palliative care, and will soon be taking up a Darzi Fellowship with Islington CCG in August 2016. She has experience in teaching medical students both in seminar and bedside teaching.

Dr Andreas Hadjinicolaou

Dr Andreas Hadjinicolaou

Andreas Hadjinicolaou is a medical doctor in Oxford and fellow at Merton College. He is also a research scientist at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at Oxford University where he holds a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship. He studied medicine at Cambridge University, carried out his research at Stanford University and is currently finishing his DPhil at Oxford University. His research interest is cancer biology, metabolism and immunology. He is investigating the potential of new therapies that help and boost our own immune system to fight cancer. His clinical interests include oncology, dermatology gastroenterology.
